LARIN COFFEE
IN EL SALVADOR

Coffee has long been a passion for the Larin Family. Larin’s Coffee is a tradition dating back to the year 1890, when our great- grandfather planted Bourbon Coffee near the town of Juayua, in the mountains about two hours west of San Salvador. The first farm’s name was “Mashcarascuahuit”, which means wooden mask in Nahuat, the Pipils Indians’ native language.

Two generations later, Roberto Larin took control of the business and was at the helm for over 50 years. He was a visionary promoter and believer in quality coffee, and made the LARIN name synonymous with excellence throughout the market. The next generation took over in 2010, and the family traditions continue.
The lush Salvadoran highlands and volcanoes provide fertile soil perfect for growing high-quality coffee beans. Over 90% of our coffee is shade-grown, bird friendly, and from a high altitude located on the most beautiful and richest lands of El Salvador.
We are located in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, and have been operating under Rainforest Alliance Certification since 2004. We can affirm that we meet the standards of the Rainforest Certification because we improve working conditions in general, support biodiversity conditions and protect potable water sources. Workers and their families are guaranteed access to schools, health benefits, and safe and sanitary conditions. We strongly believe in promoting social and environmental benefits which help reduce the effects of hunting, pollution, deforestation, climate change and other agricultural impacts that negatively affect biologicial diversity.
Some of the strictest requirements are that the coffee must be cleaned by hand, processed with freshwater, picked at the peak of ripeness when the cherries turn a deep, dark red, and have 0% defective beans. The coffee is only exported if it meets these standards.
