Our Farms
All of our coffee farms are grown under shade trees which are native to El Salvador, including Pepeto and cypress. We also have windbreakers formed by Copalchi, another native species important to the ecological balance of the region and a natural barrier against soil erosion. Our mill and farms are all certified Rainforest Alliance or C.A.F.E. Practices, meaning we are committed to the social welfare of our employees and surrounding communities as well as to the protection of our environment. Over 400 species of local and migratory birds have been documented on our farms, demonstrating that they are an important part of the regional biological corridor. Only about 40% of our Shangrila-El Tesoro farm is cultivated with coffee, while 60% (200 acres) permanently remains as a natural rainforest sustaining the numerous flora and fauna of the region.
